Co-occurring therapy is for those individuals who are struggling with mental health conditions, while also dealing with an addictive substance and/or behavior at the same time. These individuals require specialized treatment from professionals that have experience and often times certifications to work with the unique presentations found in the co-occurring population. The first step is to assess the current stage of change that an individual is in, while completing a comprehensive assessment. This is then followed by the development of a comprehensive treatment plan that most often will include the mention of additional supports so that the individual will receive the most comprehensive care available.
