Vinay is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Oregon and has been in the field of mental health for over 20 years. She has worked as a sexual assault treatment counselor for children, teens, and adults, a volunteer rape crisis counselor / medical advocate, and an individual, family, and couples therapist in outpatient settings.
Vinay believes that, whether we are facing daily challenges of work or school, or overwhelming difficulties due to loss, violence, and other trauma, the biggest protective factors are our relationships with our families, friends, neighbors, and community. There is little we cannot manage, and ultimately resolve, when we feel loved, supported, and that we belong. And she believes this runs deep and true for all of us, regardless of our differences.
In working with adults, Vinay focuses on resolving the patterns of relating that have early roots and have since become problematic. She also works to identify and ultimately resolve the damaging role of trauma and stress on our ability to feel and engage at our best, practicing healthy and sustaining solutions.
For children and teens especially, strengthening the primary relationships with parents and siblings is a primary focus of the work, in addition to processing difficult situations and learning to have comfort and ease with all one’s emotions. Vinay works closely with parents to offer non-judgmental support and solutions to parenting issues.
Embracing an integrative, strength-based approach to therapy, Vinay utilizes tools from developmental, cognitive-behavioral, and trauma-focused schools of thought to understand concerns.
